Invite 124 // Jun 3The Maine summer recipe is a good one. Canoe camping on a river trip, sailing to an island, hiking a summit in July to pick blueberries, playing cards at camp under a propane lamp. You could run it back year after year and be perfectly satisfied. But beneath the nostalgia and tradition, there is also change. New ways to experience the state are emerging. This week, I'm highlighting places and experiences that have opened in the last year(ish). I won't judge you if you stick to the tried and true, but for those with a taste for novelty, consider checking these out: Revolution Rail Co. - Maine's first rail biking experience: a 7-mile electric-assist pedal along the shore of Green Lake near Deham. Tekαkαpimək Contact Station - A new $35 million welcome center tells the story of the Katahdin region through the eyes of the Wabanaki people. Sugarloaf Bike Park - Don't sleep on Sugarloaf in the summer with 1,000 feet of life-accessed mountain bike terrain opening June 19th. Acadia Gateway Center - After many years of planning, visitors can now park for free, grab a pass, and hop on the Island Explorer bus to Acadia. Bauneg Beg Mountain South Peak - Great Works Regional Land Trust opened three new trails on the mountain's highest summit in October 2025, with views stretching from New Hampshire to the Gulf of Maine. Peavey Brook Outdoor Center - A new trailhead facility near Baxter State Park's northern entrance is expanding with five miles of mountain bike trails and plans for a future welcome center. Now, on to this week's events. ✌️ Max Reach 1,000+ Maine outdoor enthusiasts while supporting a community resource. View sponsorship opportunities.
